Sporting Kansas City traveled to Miami for their annual preseason content shoot, and I was brought in to lead their "practical set.” A designed, styled environment built to be shot as-is for creative content, and image assets of every player.
The shoot took place across two days at M3 Studios, with a dedicated pre-light and set build the day before. Working directly with Sporting KC's creative director, senior designer, and team photographer, the goal was to produce an artistic, editorial-feeling image library that could carry the club's 2025 season content. A departure from standard media day imagery toward something with real set design, texture, and mood.
A large part of this project happened before anyone picked up a camera. Because the club was traveling from Kansas City, I brought on Waked Creations to source props locally in Miami to reduce what the team needed to fly down, working through local prop houses, thrift inventory, and marketplace finds to match a color-specific creative direction.
The final results was a mix of editorial assets that range from country call-up images to hero imagery to be used for graphics throughout the season. Players brought the energy and the aesthetics complimented the nature of the athletes to interact and engage with props, as noted by images of the phone, saxophone and boombox, amongst others.
